    Bread for the Head

    Blessed to Bless

I was standing in a large room full of hungry people who had only weeks before lost their homes to a tropical storm. I couldn’t feed them all, much less house them. I was, just as you would have been, filled with compassion and sympathy. God spoke to me in those moments of realization, “I love you, Eric, just like that and even more,” he said, “more than you can imagine”. The lesson didn’t stop there. He helped me understand that He had blessed me so that I might bless others.
This blessing can be poured out in as many ways as you can imagine, but ultimately it is all about love. The love that God gives us it is not meant only for our filling. No, it is much more—it is meant for our pouring out. The Apostle Paul speaks of this pouring out when he says, “but if I don’t love I am nothing” (1Cor.13:1-3).
The desperation may not manifest itself the same way in Shreveport. The storm may not be of a physical nature. Homes aren’t being washed away by mud slides, but there is a storm and there are desperate people, and the ultimate need is the same-- my love and your love because of God’s love.
